Boys Town Educational Model.
In order to successfully accomplish classroom management in Direct instruction and Cooperative Learning, I will use Boys Town Educational Model (BTEM). According to Hensley, Powell, and Hartman, (2011), “the goal of Boys Town Educational Model is to create healthy school environment through effective classroom management techniques, relationship building and social skills instruction. BTEM is divided into 4 components: building positive relationships, teaching social skill, reinforcing social skill, and responding to problem behavior (Hensley, Powell, and Hartman, 2011). The first component addresses building positive relationships between students and staff and between peers. In order for me to build a positive relationship with your student, I will respect them, communicate with them and show empathy. Once students have gained a positive relationship with their teacher they can use their relationship as a model to help build a positive relationship with their classmates. Teaching social skills sets the ground work for addressing problem behavior and creating school environment of healthy relationships. Therefore, I will incorporate the social skills instruction with in the day-today-day classroom management. As described in Boys Town Skill, I will teach a skill once a week in order for students to properly master the skill. The third component Is reinforcing the social skills. In order to reinforce the social skills learned, I will practice the learned skills throughout the week to help students function in the classroom (J. Kambutu, Class handout September 25, 2018). As the teacher, I will also respond to problem behavior through SODAS, acronym for handling problem behavior.

To properly handled problem behavior, I will define situation in regards to understand it and observe where it came from (S). I will also examine opinions available to deal it the problem (O). Then determine the disadvantages of each option(D). It is important that I determine the disadvantages of each option as the options can create another problem or ease implementation. I will also determine the advantages of each option (A). Finally, I will decide on a solution to the behavior and practice it (S). I can practice through role play and guided feedback. The Boys Town Educational models approach is appropriate or Instructional strategies as it creates a safe, positive and healthy school where students can choose positive, pro-social behaviors and less likely to engage in negative behavior (Duppong Hurley and Hyland, 2000).
